Hand baggage vs checked baggage

Hand baggage is the bag you carry into the cabin; checked baggage is dropped at the counter and travels in the hold. The allowances for each are set by the airline and can differ by fare.

Many fares include a cabin bag but not a checked bag. Both have size and weight limits, and going over them can mean fees at the airport, so it helps to check the numbers before you pack.

If you'll need to check a bag, adding it during booking is usually cheaper than at the airport. The included allowance and any add-on options are shown for your fare as you book.
